This shall be a thread about new updates and such. I think. Yesterday, the new Dragon Encyclopedia was released. The news topic is here and the page itself can be accessed at /dragonopedia. The encyclopedia contains information about Valkemare or the DC world, info about dragon magic, elemental alignments of dragons, and some trivia about certain dragon breeds. One of the more notable things about the announcement was the inclusion of this picture in TJ's first post, perhaps revealing a future rooster in addition to our lonely hens? There has also been mention of the possibility of an albino Nebula dragon in its extra breed information. What are your thoughts on this new feature? I, personally, am thrilled to actually have some canon information about the DC world. It is also great to have some of the breed info! I'm disappointed by the number of breeds that lack extra information, but I'm sure new trivia will be added soon eventually. I'd prefer to have an accurate count of how many of each dragon I own--as it now only counts those you've raised since the encyclopedia went live--but for the most part I'm satisfied and pleased with this update.

Personally, I was very much looking forward to the encyclopedia. However, I'm very disappointed by the way it has been implemented. I mean, seriously, who can click on 200 or more ND hatchlings to unlock everything there is to know about them? Not to mention that we have over 100 breeds by now, I think. All of which need to be unlocked.
I'm certainly not going on another clicking spree to add to the lag. If something unlocks, it unlocks. If it doesn't, it doesn't. We'll probably be able to find all important information on the dragcave wiki anyway.

I might be simply too old for that, but I don't get where is the fun in clicking on hundreds of little dragon pictures. Catching them is cool, lineages are cool, breeding, gifting, trading are cool, but clicking? Really? These little trivia infos are a nice addition and some might find them entertaining, but I don't think I will be bothered to unlock all of them. For me this whole feature is... well, maybe not useless, but needless. I appreciate an effort put in it, I understand that some folks may use it for their roleplays, fanfictions or whatnot, but it is nothing I might be intersted in.

...I think TJ might have intended for us to unlock the encyclopedia entries bit by bit as we collect dragons - our own creatures will eventually fill it. Some people just seem to have the idea that "we need to have it NOW" and go on a clicking spree, or complain about it.
I already filled most of it, but just because I don't intend to collect more than a gendered pair and a few nice lineages, and I don't freeze unless I like the hatchie. So my scroll will never get big enough to fill the encyclopedia.

Actually, I've had pretty much every dragon at every stage. (Exceptions: Bright pinks, adult NDs, gendered ND hatchlings as well as dinos, cheeses, chickens and ultraviolets at anything but egg stage.) I know what all the sprites look like, even the spriters' alts. But the encyclopedia decides to hide this stuff from me because I'm too much of a noob to know better... It's quite stupid, if you care to think about it.

While I sure hope that it won't be hundreds of dragons to fill out each breed, maybe this will help boost the pickup rate for Albinos and Balloons. It has made me suddenly remember that I adore Balloons, because they look so adorably silly.
I must admit I am quite in dismay at the number of hatchlings needed to unlock all the ND entries. And Gold and Silver. Those are breeds most people just really prefer to grow to adult if possible. If this follows through for holiday dragons, thaaaat… won't be good news, that's for sure. xD;
I am most disappointed that the clicking system seems to be broken. I can't just click off someone's scroll: I have to go in and view the dragons from a lineage link first, and then click on that link. That is extremely time consuming. It took me days to get all 500 Chickens. (…Yeeeeah, don't ask. Not much of a story, I just really wanted to complete it and LBD has thousands of Chickens, so…)

...I actually used Google magic to find stuff to click. XD I found all the Gold and Silver hatchies by simply searching for the hatchling description.
site:dragcave.net/view "Like the egg it hatched from, it is a very shiny gold" site:dragcave.net/view "It gives off a glow that lights up the cave"
Like so. ...This method works with all dragons - I've already filled the breed data for both Golds and Silvers~

I still won't go to the trouble. Not now, not ever. The feature is stupid the way it was implemented. (How are we supposed to unlock the egg sprites of BP and frills?) And NDs especially are so incredibly hard to get this isn't even funny. Why can't we see spriters' alts in the encyclopedia? After all, these images could be unlocked with just one click on either an adult or frozen hatchling from that stock. Definitely a better solution than not making them available at all.
And, yes, having to click hundreds of things that don't even grow any more (adults, countless (frozen) hatchlings) isn't something I consider fun.

With help from this, I have finally cut my ND hatchie requirement from 126 to view down to 59 to view.

I am now done with the observations of Neglected hatchlings and adults. And just before they reduced the number, too. It looks like the update changed a couple of Encyclopedia issues and bugs, though it has removed the sprites for the Discontinued breeds. While this makes sense, I was hoping that they would be reintroduced, instead. Oh well—there is still hope. Anyone have a favorite Encyclopedia entry?
